Stamp price history 1863 - 1971

• March 3, 1863 - 2¢ stamp featuring Andrew Jackson ("Black Jack") is issued. However because of American Civil War price is quickly increased to 3 cents
• March 3, 1883 - Stamps cost 2¢ again
• November 3, 1917 - Postage is again 3¢ because of World War I
• July 1, 1917 - Back to pre-war price of 2¢ again by decision of the US Congress
• July 6, 1932 - Stamps now cost 3¢
• August 1, 1958 - Stamps price increases to 4¢
• January 7, 1963 - Yet another increase to 5¢
• January 7, 1968 - 6 cents...
• May 16, 1971 - 8 cents...
